THE LONG TERM EFFECTS OF THE ATOMIC BOMBS, PEACE TREATY, AND JAPAN'S INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS SINCE WORLD WAR TWO
The atomic bombs used is WWII killed as many as 140,000 people in Hiroshima and 80,000 in Nagasaki by the end of 1945, roughly half on the days of the bombings. Since then, thousands more have died from injuries or illness attributed to exposure of readiation released by the bombs.[1]
Effectsdue to:
Thermal Heat: Intense thermal heat emitted by the fireball caused severe burns and loss of eyesight. Thermal burns of bare skin occurred as far as 3.5 kilometers from ground zero (directly below the burst point). Most people exposed to thermal rays within 1-kilometer radius of ground zero died. Tile and glass melted; all combustible materials were consumed.
The Blast: The atomic explosion caused an enormous shock wave followed instanteneously by a rapid expansion of air called the blast; these represent roughtly half of the explosion's released energy. Maximum wind pressure of the blast: 35 tons per square meter. Maximum wind velocity: 440 meters per second.
Wooden houses within 2.3 kilometers of ground zero collapsed. Concrete buildings near ground zero (thus hit by the blast from above) had ceilings crushed along with windows and doors blown off. Many people were trapped under fallen strunctures and burned to death.
The Radiation: People exposure within 500 meters of ground zero was fatal. People exposed at distances of 3 to 5 kilometers later showed symptoms of aftereffects, including radiation-induced cancers.[4]
The radiations effects which were in play for various years after the bombing include, children malformation and a high number of deaths from cancer. The effects of this radiation are still causing sufferage to this day.

The Conference of Potsdam in Germany was originally intended to try to present an ultimatum to get Japan to surrender. It was there that US President Truman revealed to the allies that the US had an atom bomb and was thinking about using it on Japan. [6]
On September 8, 1954, the Treaty of San Fransisco or "The Treaty of Peace with Japan" was signed between the allied governments and the Japanese government the main provisions of which stated that:
a. Japan surrender to the allied powers.
b. surrender all its overseas territories.
c. accept all UN Security Council resolutions set forth. [7][8]
The treaty of San Francisco brought back international community after World War II ended,. The Japanese diplomatic policy has been internationally linked with America and has found it very important to work with the United Nations. Japan played a role in the Western world, reacting to many different conflicts related to the Soviet Union. This was during the Cold War. Japan quickly became a stronger country during the 1960's and the 1970's.Their economic relations quickly improved and Japan came back from its problems and was now considered one of the most powerful and superior countries in the world. Today, many other countries viewpoint of Japan are great and definite.
The Japanese foreign policy was not confident and firm during the period of the Cold War. As a country, Japan always cared about their economic progress and how they could change their economy for the best. By the end of the Cold War, Japan's government decided to take part in Peacekeeping organizations which were organized by the UN. [10]
In 1970 the Japanese government took measure for depurate the environment form radiation and introduced many environmental protection laws. Now Japan take issues surrounding climate change and global warming seriously. In 1997 was a signatory of the Kyoto Protocol and host the first conference.
The worst effect of this first nuclear attack war probably the begin of the Cold War between USA and USSR, they were the only two countries that had the nuclear weapons and the cold war caused the arms race.[11]
Another effect is: the nuclear proliferation in many country of the world.
